Black by God is striving to create a comprehensive Black Business listing and directory for West Virginia.

This article was originally published on Black By God on August 12.

Creating a comprehensive listing of Black-owned businesses in West Virginia for the Black on the Map Black Business Directory has proven to be a significant challenge for Black by God (BBG). This initiative aims to create an online and print directory to support Black-owned businesses across West Virginia.

Our partner and cover personality, Jamar Dunnigan from Dunn It Again Creative, is the vibrant mind behind “The Wild and Wonderful Report,” covering everything from Black Lifestyle, Arts, Culinary, Culture, to Fashion — affectionately termed BLACC AF. Jamar is  ready to dive into the rich tapestry of stories surrounding Black-owned businesses in and around West Virginia and has been working diligently to visit Black-owned businesses for BBG.

Keep an eye out for Mr. Wild and Wonderful in your neighborhood!

The Challenge

While we had hoped to provide our readers with a detailed directory for this publication, we have encountered several hurdles that have delayed this project. This endeavor requires substantial support and specific skills, which we are currently seeking to acquire.

What We Need

To move forward with this important project, we are in need of the following support:

Google Map Maker: We are looking for someone experienced in creating custom Google Maps to help us plot the locations of these businesses accurately.

Technical Support: We require technical assistance in aggregating the lists and organizing the data efficiently. This includes web development skills and data analysis expertise.

Volunteers for Vetting: We need dedicated volunteers to help us vet the businesses. This involves confirming that they are Black-owned, verifying their stage of business, and ensuring other essential details are accurate.

A Long-term Project

While we apologize for not meeting our initial goal, we want to emphasize that this is a long-term project for BBG. We believe that, with the right support and resources, this initiative will grow and become an essential tool for our readers and the West Virginia community.

How You Can Help

If you have the skills or know someone who can assist us in any of these areas, we encourage you to reach out. Your support will be invaluable in helping us achieve our goal of creating a comprehensive, reliable, and useful Black business directory for West Virginia.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support. We remain committed to this project and to the mission of empowering and uplifting Black businesses in our community.

Let’s work together to uplift and promote Black-owned businesses in our community!
