Students from across Peel’s public school system will perform at the Black Student Alliance (BSA) Showcase.
According to organizers, the event features a variety of Afrocentric performances, including dance and song. The showcase celebrates Black culture through performance as well as providing a platform for students to express themselves while unifying the community and appreciating the richness of Black heritage and identity.
“Expect step, double dutch, drumming and more,” said organizers in a release. “Let’s come together, feel the rhythm, and celebrate Black excellence like never before!”
The showcase takes place on April 30 at Chinguacousy Secondary School, 1370 Williams Parkway East in Brampton. Doors open at 5 p.m. with performances starting at 6 p.m. There is no charge to attend.
“This is an unmissable night of soul-stirring Afrocentric performances paired with an award show highlighting BSAs that demonstrate how they are building capacity of anti-Black racism, anti-colonialism and anti-oppression, while promoting Black joy and healing, and developing critical consciousness,” organizers said.
The Peel District School Board has 146 Black Student Alliances, including 36 in secondary schools and 110 in elementary schools.
