Black Culture Market is a vibrant pop-up event that has been running for a few years, designed to champion and highlight black owned businesses.

Their recent event in Lambeth Town Hall, Brixton, took place over 11 and 12 of July and featured everything from booksellers to rum makers.

The aim of Black Culture Market is to create opportunities for black entrepreneurs to thrive through curated events, markets, and cultural experiences, creating jobs, closing the wealth gap, and inspiring ownership and entrepreneurship.

According to their website 0.24% of capital in the UK goes to Black entrepreneurs. Access to early-stage capital is limited.

The Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce also recently released statistics that show black entrepreneurs are less likely to receive loans from traditional financial institutions and when they do secure funding, it often comes with less favourable terms.

The events have so far raised £1.6m for the businesses and supported over 2,000 black-owned businesses.
