It wasn’t a fiery revolutionary or a headline-chasing populist who threw the first stone. It was Botswana’s President Duma Gideon Boko, a leader often viewed as quiet, composed, and cautious. That’s what made it all the more shocking when he stood before the African Union and delivered a warning not to the West, but to his fellow African leaders: “If we say we support Traoré, our actions must show it.” As the African Diaspora saying goes, “I am because we are, and we are because I am.”
