Celebrating resilience and economic empowerment in business, the Wilson Community College Black Business Expo brought out 31 vendors to the Frank L. Eagles Center on Tuesday.Robert Melton III, engagement coordinator at Wilson Community College, said the turnout maxed out the space at this year’s event.“I love it,” Melton said. This was the third year for the event.“I know each year it has gotten better and better,” Melton said. “Just looking at all the vendors that we have here, all the participants, all the students, and all of the community members. It has been a great time, and it has just been a blessing.”The main room at the Eagles Center was filled with representatives of businesses and nonprofits, and the parking lot had several food truck businesses owned by Black entrepreneurs.“This is the most vendors that we have actually had sign up for our Black Business Expo, so we have 31 great vendors and they are here to let their businesses shine,” Melton said.Teresa Jones of the D.A. Legacy Builders Project Association of Wilson had a table next to her daughter, Tiara Williams, who was there to promote her beauty products business, T.L. Beauty.“It’s been really great. I have been really enjoying it so far,” Jones said. “My daughter is spreading her wings. This is her first event where she has been doing this.”Verna Boyd was at the expo with the Early Identification Early Intervention Outreach Program, a health care service.“We are helping the community to learn coping skills,” Boyd said. Boyd also represented the Wilson-Raleigh Chapter of Black Nurses Rock.“Last year it seems like it was less people,” Boyd said. “This year it seems like people are more interested in the different things that we are doing, so I am glad that they put out more advertising and gave more information as we needed it.”Boyd said the event was “packed” this year. “It is great. I am happy about seeing all these people here,” Boyd said.Boyd said the responses from the young people who attended was excellent. “They have reacted to the information I have given them and they are interested in coming to the various events that we are having, so that is a good thing.”
