RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia has announced its lineup of June exhibitions and programs.

Exhibitions

Virginia is for Music Lovers: A History of Virginia’s Black Excellence in Music

• June 1 – July 27
• This exhibition will walk through the rich heritage of Black music in Virginia and highlight talented local artists, musicians, DJs and historians. According to the museum, the exhibition will feature QR codes that unlock narrative playlists that compliment the visual art on display.

Back to the Rock: From Enslavement to Empowerment

• June 15 – August 17
• This exhibit will dive into the story of St. Frances de Sales and St. Emma’s Military Academy, which was the nations only Black military academy for more than 70 years, according to the museum.

Special Events

Artist Talk: “Re(CLAY)mation of Collaborative Intersections” with Lydia C. Thompson

• Saturday, June 8 from 2 to 4 p.m.
• Lydia C. Thompson will share the history of African American ceramics and the inspiration of exhibitions like “Like the Dust Settles in Layers, So Does the Story.” To register for the event, click here.

Preserving Virginia’s Jazz Legacy at the Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU

• Saturday, June 15 from 3 to 5 p.m.
• BJ Brown from the Jazz Society will discuss Virginia’s role in developing Jazz and share the accomplishments of 38 artists from Virginia that are recognized nationally and internationally.
