WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) – People were out Saturday morning pumping money back into the local economy by supporting small businesses.

Saturday was the fifth annual “Bringing it Black” shopping event where many minority small businesses that may not have brick-and-mortar stores are highlighted.

Event co-owner Danielle Johnson said the idea grew from small business Saturday but with its own twist.

“We really try to highlight our black and brown business owners. We’re starting to see more of them pop out into the community and we’re excited to be on what we’re calling the block so we’re alongside other businesses like Del Norte and Left on Read,” said Johnson.

Natasha Dyer was out supporting the different businesses Saturday and said, “A lot of these people have invested a lot of money and time into their dreams and I think it is just so important to not only sew into the local economy but support them.”

16-year-old Maray Rogers represented the Kidspreneur side of things with her business, Pretty Made Products.  She said she started by researching lip glosses and has now added lip and body scrubs as well as eyelashes and more.

Johnson said by helping the additional Black-owned businesses popping up, you are helping create jobs while turning dollars several times into the community.
