A celebration of Black excellence

Dear Annie, a wine bar in Cambridge, Mass., is hosting a special, one-night event on Oct. 23 with a multi-course tasting menu centered on Black foodways, paired with wines by dynamic Black winemakers. Chef Ruthney Trin Benjamin plans to prepare items like sweet potato cornbread with scotch bonnet butter, and miso and caramelized salmon with sticky jollof and seaweed. Tickets are $85 each, and include a five-course pescatarian communal dinner with additional surprises throughout the evening. An optional wine pairing will also be available, in addition to suggested pairings by the glass. Seatings are available at 5 or 7:30 p.m.

Pickle Making 101

Chef Marc Sheehan of Northern Spy in Canton, Mass., is hosting a Pickle Making 101 course on Oct. 23 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. You’ll learn how to make hot pour-over vinegar pickles like dilly beans, how to infuse vinegar to use in a salad dressing, and how to make a brined fermented pickle like sauerkraut or Kimchi. Tickets are $80 and include a complimentary drink and light snacks. Sheehan is also teaching a cinnamon roll-making class for adults and children on Dec. 14 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tickets for an adult plus a child are $100 (and $75 for one adult only).

A harvest dinner with wine pairings

Cotton Hollow Kitchen in Glastonbury, Conn., is hosting a five-course harvest dinner with wine pairings from Orin Swift of Helena, Calif., on Oct. 28 at 6:30 p.m. Courses will include Connecticut oysters, duck confit and mushroom gnocchi, beef bourguignon, and mini chocolate pumpkin macrons. Tickets are $125 per person.

South Shore bar pizza, but in Newport

Chef Will Gilson of Puritan & Company in Cambridge, Mass., is popping up at Mother Pizzeria in Newport, R.I., on Oct. 29, where he’ll be cooking up South Shore bar pizza — one of Boston’s best-kept secrets. These pizzas are crispy, cheesy, and served in unassuming taverns in towns south of Boston. Make a reservation here.

Candy Rave at Club Frills

Club Frills in Providence, the funky cocktail bar serving ridiculously interesting food, is hosting a “Candy Rave” party on Oct. 30. The party is sponsored by Campari, so they’ll be featuring cocktail specials using Campari, and chef Nikhil Naiker will be preparing homemade candy. Doors open at 5 p.m., and a DJ will be spinning tunes from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

A focus on Alpine cuisine

The Black Point Inn in Scarborough, Maine, is planning an Epicurean Weekend from Oct. 31 through Nov. 2, where you’ll essentially get a tour of Alpine food and wine. A package for two (starting at $1,320) includes your stay, a reception with sparkling wine and cocktails, an “Apres Ski” feast by the fire on Friday night, a Nordic-style breakfast Saturday morning, cocktail hour with drinks and appetizers on Saturday, a formal dinner on Saturday night with wine pairings, and a Sunday morning American breakfast buffet. A four-course Napa Valley dinner in Mystic

The Shipwright’s Daughter is hosting a four-course Napa Valley dinner featuring six bespoke wines from Long Meadow Ranch on Nov. 3 from 6 to 9:30 p.m.. You’ll learn about the family-owned winery’s regenerative farming, holistic agriculture, and land stewardship practices. Dinner will be prepared by James Beard Award-winning chef David Standridge. A family-style beer dinner in Portland

Sur Lie, a tapas restaurant in Portland, is hosting a family-style four-course dinner on Nov. 3 at 5 p.m., which will be paired with beer from Sacred Profane of Biddeford, Maine. Some of these brews will include never-seen-before releases. Tickets are $125 each, which includes tax and tip.

The inaugural Mystic Cocktail Classic

Veritable Distillery in Stonington, Conn., is hosting the Mystic Cocktail Classic from Nov. 7 to 10, which will feature four spirit pairing dinners, classes, a book fair, and a competition. Bartenders from all over the country submitted their recipes for the competition, and the semifinalist list was just announced. Find all the details here.

The Great Reversal dinner

Ever wondered if your server could handle the heat in the kitchen? Well, Cornicello, a tiny restaurant in Exeter, N.H., is putting that question to the test on Nov. 11. The front of house team will be swapping places with the back of house staff. If you go, you’ll be eating a three-course meal with seatings at either 5 p.m. or 7 p.m. Tickets are $100 per person. Game and Gamay Dinner

Hen of the Wood in Waterbury, Vt., is hosting a four-course dinner with wine pairings, working with Woodbury Game Birds, on Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $165 per person, and includes dinner, the wine pairings, and welcome drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Details here.

Newport Restaurant Week

Newport Restaurant Week is taking place from Nov. 7 to 16, and you’ll have 10 days to eat your way around Newport and Bristol counties in Rhode Island through prix-fixe menus for lunch (for $20 or $30), or dinner (for $30, $45, or $60) across some of Newport’s most famed eateries. Prices vary by restaurant. Here’s a list of participating restaurants.

A rooftop supper club

Amaryllis in downtown Providence is hosting an eight-course supper club dinner featuring dishes of Portugal on Nov. 19 at the top of the Peerless building. Enos Fine Wines, the neighboring wine shop, will be pairing each dish with wine from Portugal. The owners told me they’re still working to finalize the menu, but are planning plenty of bacalhau, tinned fish, and octopus, and are sourcing their fresh fish from Dune Brothers. Expect some pastel de nata for dessert. Tickets will be $100 each. Check the restaurant’s Instagram page for when they go on sale.
