GUT HEALING, AND COUNSELOR MARLIE’S PERSONAL JOURNEY

I’ve always been fascinated by how food impacts our health, mind and bodies.
In the last few years I’ve begun to go on a more personal journey with food due to experiencing a lot of discomfort after eating. I would become so bloated after eating, sometimes to the point of being in pain.
In social settings it was hard to stay present with the people around me. All I wanted to do was to lay in bed.
I saw one Naturopathic Doctor who suggested I try an elimination diet – no sugar, dairy or gluten for a month. It was hard work and I didn’t always adhere to it. I felt a little frustrated and let things slide for a while.
Eventually I just couldn’t cope anymore, so I found another ND who I am still seeing today after a year.
She diagnosed with me SIBO (small intestinal bacteria overgrowth) and it’s changed everything. I now follow a SIBO and Low FODMAP diet. She worked with me to heal my gut, to kill off the bad bacteria which cause the severe bloating reaction and we are now working on making my gut healthy again.
In addition to seeing my Naturopath, I do my own research and read up on these topics. I’ve begun to see food in a whole different way.
For me, if I can understand the mechanisms going on behind the scenes (ie. in my gut) I am far more motivated to adhere to change. That’s why I have LOVED these two books and would highly recommend them if you are the kind of person who likes to understand the reasons WHY you’re making these changes and WHY the food you eat truly does matter. ♥️🥦🥥🥬🍠🥑♥️
