It’s more like teaching my friends the tricks of the game so it can avoid being hustled when the time comes. So let’s talk about how to make money on a car lease. Overall, I would tell you pay cash for your car and never lease because its one of the most expensive ways to ride a car, because you walk away with nothing.

1. Cash out of the Lease, buy the car and Sell for a profit
– Let’s say you have a Toyota Rav 4 and you leased it
– And its during the pandemic and car prices basically skyrocket

For example:
– You have left on your lease 12 months, the buyout fee is about $3,600
– And the residual value of the car ( how it costs you to buy it once the lease is over ) is about 15k
– So if you pay the fees plus the car price, you’re all in for 18,600 but if the market price is $25k, then you can easily make a profit
Con: cars tend to go down in value, so thinking you can time the market Is highly unlikely
– What car are you going to buy, if the prices are up on used cars too

2. Sell the lease directly to a third party ( like CarMAx)
– You can sell your lease to company or a person
– And then stop making payments altogether
– And if your car is worth enough, potentially even make some money

Cons: some companies have restrictions on this type of activity and won’t let you sell your lease

3. Sell your lease to the Dealer
– Now obviously if the dealership is offering to buy your lease its because they see a way to make money
– But if it gets you out the lease and you end up good
– Then I see it as a good trade-off
