How to Invest Outside of USA (non-us resident)

SO one of the most requested videos I get is how do I invest in America if I live outside of America. And it’s honestly a great question.

1. Rumors that are Stupid
– You do not have to be US citizens to invest in Stocks
(it’s just a lot easier to verify your identity when you are, and when you are a resident/green card holder) – I started investing with my green card before I became a citizen
– The only thing is that you will need to give them extra verification to identify you ( this is because of the patriots act back in 9-11 to prevent weird stuff going on)
– So consider it an extra layer of identification

Now here is a gift from me to you
– If you want to find a broker the easier way is to go on this website
– And type in your country and it’ll tell you the broker you can actually sign up for and start investing with
– But in this video, I’ll go over the options and share my thoughts on the brokerages.

2. Problems and what you need
– Btw just to get this out the way, the reason some US brokers don’t allow International users, is because there is a language barrier, Regulation, and a lot of complexity
– So that’s why only firms that are big are willing to deal with the extra workload.

Problems:
– There are some tax implication also: dividends usually taxed at a flat rate of 30% and capital gains taxed not charge by US but by where you are their tax on foreign markets ( you’ll need a form W-8BEN, this if you are investing in the US but are not a resident and if your country has a treaty with America, this saves a lot of money on taxes)

What you need
– Paperwork to confirm your identity ( they will thorough)
– Some brokers require minimums up to but limited to 25k)
– So keep that in mind.

3. Options:
– TD Ameritrade ( works with over 100 countries) – its commission-free trading but no fractional shares
– Interactive broker ( works with 220 countries) – a little cheaper than TD and pretty good
– Charles Schwab One International ( works with over 100 countries but needs a minimum deposit of 25k)
– Zacks Trade ( over 200 countries) – $2,500 minimum

More options if you can qualify
– Or international brokers ( in your country )
– Or buy directly American companies that are a part of the foreign exchange
