“Web3 fixes” — that phrase become all too common at the height of the web3 hype in 2021. In the music industry, web3 was billed as the replacement for the archaic and unfair music industry. This us-vs-them mentality only made web3 more polarizing to some.
Web 3 founder Cardin Campbell is taking a different approach. His company, trac, wants to bridge the existing web 2.0 infrastructure with web 3.0. In particular, he sees a huge opportunity to digitize the way royalty payments are made to music rights holders.
“A lot of the industry is still pen and paper. Web3 gives us an opportunity to digitize the music industry in ways we’ve never been able to.”
