Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody’s production and energy propelled the Warriors to a 120-105 victory over the Raptors in Toronto on Friday. Kuminga (24) and Moody (17) combined for 41 points, including 28 in the first half. The Warriors have won all three games on their current road trip and have tallied eight straight road wins overall.
MOODY PROVIDES EARLY SPARK OF ENERGYOn the second night of a road back-to-back, the Warriors didn’t arrive in Toronto until 6 a.m. on gameday due to a mechanical issue with the team plane. The Dubs understandably got off to a slow start, except for Moses Moody, who scored all seven of their points in the first five minutes. On their first offensive possession, Moody relocated to the right corner and hit a 3-pointer. After limiting All-Star Jalen Brunson to just one made field goal when he was the primary defender on Thursday (1-for-5), Moody made several key defensive plays early, forcing Immanuel Quickley to miss a shot off the side of the backboard — which he took coast-to-coast for a layup on the other end — and ripping Quickley near mid-court for another transition opportunity.
Moody finished the first half with a team-high 15 points — marking the fourth half of his career with at least that many points. His season-high for points in a half (16) came in the second half of the Warriors’ first meeting against the Raptors on Jan. 7.
KUMINGA’S 13-POINT QUARTER Jonathan Kuminga had his 13th career quarter in double figures, fittingly with 13 points in the second quarter on Friday. Kuminga relentlessly attacked the basket, hitting five of his six field goal attempts in the restricted area.
Kuminga finished with 24 points marking his third straight game with 20-plus points.
CURRY KEEPS SPLASHINGFresh off hitting eight 3-pointers against the Knicks on Thursday, Stephen Curry added seven more splashes on Friday. Curry sank three 3-pointers in an 84-second span in the first quarter and capped a 14-3 third-quarter run with consecutive threes. Curry had a double-double on Thursday and again proved to be much more than the league’s top shooter on Friday, adding six rebounds and six assists.
PIVOTAL THIRD QUARTER ADVANTAGE The Warriors outscored the Raptors 32-19 in the third quarter to take a double-digit lead (93-83) into the final frame. In the quarter, they had a nearly six-minute span in which they outscored Toronto by 17 points (24-7). They particularly made their mark on the defensive end of the floor, holding the Raptors to 5-for-19 shooting and 0-for-9 from three.
