GET INSPIRED
Rohi’s Readery, with support from Related Ross Foundation and volunteers from the Miami Dolphins’ Third Annual Football Unites Jason Jenkins Days of Service, will host Rhythms of Humanity, a family-friendly block party honoring 100 years of music, culture, and literacy in the Historic Northwest district of West Palm Beach.
The block party will take place on October 25, from 2 to 6 p.m., and invites the community to explore the past, present, and future of music and culture through performances, storytelling, food, and interactive stations.
The event commemorates two centennial legacies: the first being Rohi’s Readery founder Pranoo Kumar Skomra’s grandmother, Rohini, whose spirit continues to inspire generations at Rohi’s Readery; and the one hundredth anniversary of the Sunset Lounge, the cultural landmark that shaped music, joy, and Black excellence in the Historic Northwest.
Rhythms of Humanity attendees can expect a variety of interactive experiences, including:
Moderated conversations, story times, and musical performances with Dr. Alisha Winn, Annie Nelson, Brandin Bryant, and Joanne Choi.
Designed to support diverse sensory needs, the section will feature hands-on music stations showcasing neurodivergent strategies for music therapy and instrument-making, as well as The Peaceful Press, a quiet creative space for button-making and artistic expression led by Rohi’s Readery high school Justice Builder interns.
Participants will move through stations that guide them through the full process of creating and illustrating a book with BAM! Books, Art, and Music Festival.
Interactive karaoke activities will connect music and literacy, featuring sounds by FLAVAR, ongoing dance parties with Jump Rope and Go Bananas, and a roller-skating rink for all ages by TJ Spot Roller Rink.
Enjoy performances by students from U.B. Kinsey/Palmview Elementary School of the Arts.
Stop by the Center for Child Counseling’s mobile unit and learn about Promise Fund’s health and wellness resources before enjoying a complimentary buffet dinner from award-winning chef Greg Eaton with Eat N’ Cake
The celebration will also support community needs, with the goal of collecting 100 diapers and 100 pairs of shoes for local families.
