The Genius Of Nipsey Hussle’s $100 Mixtape

While music artists and execs understand the value of “superfans” today, that wasn’t necessarily the case 10 years ago. However, Nipsey Hussle recognized it early after reading the book Contagious. The book has a story about a Philadelphia restaurant selling a $100 cheesesteak sandwich. Nipsey applied the same concept to himself, selling his Crenshaw mixtape for $100 a pop. The result? A quick sell-out and $100,000 in revenue. This led to the $1,000 mixtape and more experiments from Nips before his untimely passing.
