SEMO CON COMING THIS WEEKEND TO BLACK RIVER COLISEUM IN POPLAR BLUFF

Southeast Missouri’s anime, fantasy, science fiction, gaming, and comic convention is returning this weekend to Poplar Bluff.

SEMO Con is scheduled for Friday through Sunday at the Black River Coliseum.

Organizers say there will be cosplay, vendors, attractions and celebrities, such as Jack O’Halloran who was in Superman the Movie and Superman 2.

Tickets are available for $10 for a three day pass at SEMOCon.com. Tickets will also be available at the door.

POPLAR BLUFF TEACHER AWARDED GRANT MONEY TO CREATE A MORE INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL LEARNERS

A Poplar Bluff High School Teacher has been awarded grant money aimed at creating a more inclusive environment for all learners.

According to school officials, Keith Burson was awarded $750, between two grant programs at the end of last school year and the beginning of this one.

Burson received $250 in May through the Southeast Missouri Local Administrators of Special Education toward Access Algebra, an evidence-based curriculum designed for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

During the back-to-school convocation last month, Burson was presented $500 from the Missouri Retired Teachers Association Foundation toward hands-on manipulatives and visual aids to complement the curriculum component.

FIELDS OF FAITH SET FOR SEPTEMBER 28TH IN POPLAR BLUFF

The next FCA Fields of Faith event in Poplar Bluff is just over a couple weeks away.

Officials with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes tell KWOC News that the event will be held on Sunday, September 28th at Poplar Bluff High School.

The event is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm.

DEADLINE IS APPROACHING TO REGISTER FOR YOUTH BASKETBALL IN POPLAR BLUFF

Time is running out for parents to get their kids registered for youth basketball in Poplar Bluff.

According to Poplar Bluff Parks and Recreation, September 19th is the final day to register for 3rd through 6th grade youth basketball.

Games will be played at the Black River Coliseum beginning in late October/early November. Practices will tentatively start the second week of October.

The cost to register is $20. Parents can get their kids registered at pbparks.recdesk.com.

MODOT CREWS TO BE WORKING TODAY IN THE DEXTER AREA

The Outer Road in Stoddard County will be closed today in the Dexter area as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

The section of roadway being closed is located from County Road 413 to Route AD.

Weather permitting, work will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

PAVEMENT REPAIRS SCHEDULED FOR TODAY NEAR MALDEN

Route D in Dunklin County will be reduced to one lane today as Missouri Department of Transportation crews perform pavement repairs.

Officials say that the work zone will be set up between County Road 563 and 102A near Malden.

Weather permitting, work will take place today from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
