North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, the nation’s largest HBCU and a premier land-grant institution, is seeking a visionary technology leader to serve as its next Vice Chancellor Information Technology Services/Chief Information Officer (CIO). Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance, the Vice Chancellor/CIO will be the university’s senior technology executive, responsible for architecting and executing a comprehensive IT strategy that aligns with the institution’s strategic plan in the context of a complex research university. Leading a team of 59 permanent and 41 temporary employees, the Vice Chancellor/CIO will collaborate closely with the Chancellor, Cabinet, and campus stakeholders to drive digital transformation, enhance academic and administrative systems, and position North Carolina A&T at the forefront of technological innovation within the research university landscape.

North Carolina A&T is a public, land-grant doctoral research institution and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With 15,275 students, the university offers 61 undergraduate degree programs, 35 master’s programs, and 14 doctoral programs. It is America’s top producer of Black graduates in Engineering, both at the bachelor’s degree level and overall, and in Agricultural Science. It is also a top-five producer in numerous additional disciplines, including Liberal Arts and Communications/Journalism (both No. 2), No. 3 in master’s degrees awarded to Black graduates in Engineering Technologies and Related Fields, No. 4 in master’s degrees in Engineering, and No. 11 nationally among “Best Business Schools for Women.”

The Information Technology Services (ITS) office at North Carolina A&T State University plays a critical role in supporting the university’s academic, administrative, and research goals through reliable and secure technology. The mission of the ITS office focuses on enhancing innovation in teaching, learning, and research at the university by “integrating and delivering innovative technology solutions and processes to facilitate the achievement of University strategic objectives.” The next Vice Chancellor/CIO will lead a high performing team and manage a budget of $16.5 million as North Carolina A&T continues to advance its academic, research, and technological pursuits.

The Vice Chancellor for Information Technology Services/Chief Information Officer is a highly skilled and visionary leader who will provide strategic direction and oversight to the university’s information technology services and digital infrastructure. The Vice Chancellor/CIO possesses a blend of technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership abilities, enabling them to drive innovation, collaboration, and growth across the institution and system. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of the academic and research technology landscape, including high-performance computing, virtual research labs and networks, immersive technologies for teaching and research, digital learning platforms, artificial intelligence, and data security. They should be well-versed in the latest trends and advancements in information technology, with a proven track record of leveraging technology to drive transformation, improve productivity, and enhance the overall student experience.
