We paid € 190,000 for our first home in Portugal. #portugal #diyhome #renovation #retireearly

In the summer of 2020 we purchased our home on the Silver Coast of Portugal for €190,000. Over the next 6 months we worked as a family. Between school, sports and traveling we slowly worked on our house to make it feel like home. We haven’t calculated the exact renovation cost but we didn’t go over our €10,000 renovation budget/fund.

Lots of people will say we got lucky to get a great deal on our home but the principles we used to find and renovate our home is something anyone can do to also find a great deal in Portugal or anywhere in the world. It’s how we bought 3 homes in the expensive San Francisco Bay Area on a civil servant’s salary, and how we bought 7 homes in our lifetime.

I know housing can feel out of reach for you right now but your time is coming. Take a moment to educate yourself on real estate. Increase your financial literacy. Learn to DIY. Do whatever you can because ultimately it will move you closer to your goal of owning a home.

If you’re interested in learning how we purchased all our properties, and how we taught ourselves to renovate properties, we have a ton of YouTube videos and blog posts that you can binge watch. Please enjoy! And when you buy that first property let us know. We’d love to celebrate with you!
