Wealth Wednesdays Celebrates National Black Business Month Join Angela Yee and Stacey Tisdale throughout August as they celebrate the stories, leadership, and impact of Black entrepreneurs across America.
This year, Wealth Wednesdays is proud to launch a month-long editorial series honoring the entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, and business leaders who are helping shape the future of Black business in America. Throughout August, we’ll feature inspiring interviews, blog stories, social media spotlights, and conversations that celebrate not only what these entrepreneurs have built, but the leadership, resilience, and vision behind their success.
According to recent data, Black-owned employer businesses now support approximately 1.8 million jobs across the United States and generate nearly $249 billion in annual revenue. Recent reporting also shows that the number of Black-owned employer businesses has grown by 62 percent, outpacing overall U.S. business growth.
Those aren’t just statistics.
They represent families supported, dreams realized, communities strengthened, and a generation of entrepreneurs rewriting what’s possible.
Black Businesses Are Helping Build America’s Future
Black entrepreneurs aren’t simply building companies.
They’re creating jobs. They’re paying wages. They’re driving innovation. They’re investing in communities and creating opportunities for the next generation. Black-owned businesses have become a powerful economic force, demonstrating that entrepreneurship is one of the most effective ways to build wealth, strengthen communities, and expand opportunity.
Research also shows that if Black-owned businesses reached greater parity with the broader marketplace, the potential impact could mean hundreds of thousands of additional jobs and billions of dollars in new economic activity.
That’s why celebrating Black entrepreneurship isn’t just good for Black communities.
It’s good for America.
The Decisions Behind the Success
One thing we’ve learned through our conversations with hundreds of entrepreneurs is that building a successful business isn’t just about learning new strategies.
It’s about learning to think differently.
Many entrepreneurs already know what to do. The greater challenge is making the kinds of decisions that allow a business to grow without requiring more and more of the entrepreneur.
The entrepreneurs who create lasting impact are often the ones who develop the mindset, leadership, and decision-making skills required to navigate uncertainty, overcome obstacles, and continue growing through change.
That idea is at the heart of many of the conversations we’ll be having this month. Because behind every thriving business is a person who made thousands of difficult decisions, learned from setbacks, and chose to keep moving forward.
As we often say on Wealth Wednesdays, better thinking leads to better business decisions. Better business decisions create better business outcomes.
