1. First let’s establish the 4 main expenses in Life
-Shelter
-Utilities
-Groceries
-Transportation
Here is the good news:
-Some apartments in Puerto Rico come with shelter and utilities included so you only have to pay groceries and transportation
-And I 100% recommend you get a car in Puerto rico, its hard to get around without it
I also want to make 1 More thing very obvious:
-$1000 is not going to give you a princess lifestyle or a prince lifestyle
-Its good life, to keep your expenses low and stack up a lot of cash
2. Shelter what can you get
-First the best resource on the island for shelter is www.clasificadosonline.com
-Its like craigslist but you can actually trust it and not be worried about getting a discount on something but then getting stuck with a hospital bill if you know what I mean
-Here you can find places going for sale and rent
Benefit of buying:
-If you do the math correctly you buy something for the same amount it would cost you to rent and better yet if it’s your first property and you’ll live in it you’ll pay no taxes
-I would look at the Area Metro it’s like City ( I like san juan, Carolina, bayamon )
-You can get 1bed to 2bed for around 350-600 bucks
3. Utilities
-The only one you’ll have to pay is internet and if you do end up paying light and water ( it shouldn’t be more than $100, unless you’re having pool parties )
-Good connection for $20-40 bucks plus a phone bill depending on what you want for around the same price
4. Groceries
-This varies a lot by individuals although you can help yourself by learning how to cook
-Make sure the place you choose to live has a decent kitchen
-My first kitchen had a little fridge where I could barely store my groceries it sucked
But my normal budget if you know how to shop:
-Costco or Walmart
-Rice, beans and chicken and vegetables
-Like $200 month
5. Transportation
-You’ll have to pay around 250 a year for insurance its el marbete ( $20 a month and just set that aside )
-And gas prices vary but get a fuel efficient car
-And save up and pay cash for used car like I did this way you don’t have to worry about crazy payments
6. Idea
-If you make over 3-4k a month this allows you to save a bunch of money
-So then in a few years you can live like no one else can
-That’s that
